Initial Orthodontic Exam

Our goal is to provide each of our patients and their families with the highest quality orthodontic care. Your first visit with Dr. Rose will enable him to begin the evaluation of the orthodontic condition and determine if orthodontic treatment is recommended. In order to complete the diagnosis and develop a treatment plan, orthodontic diagnostic records are made as the next step. Diagnostic records typically include plaster study models of the teeth, photos of the patient's face and teeth, and orthodontic X-rays. This information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care. Many times the orthodontic records can be made on the same day as the initial examination.

Once Dr. Rose has evaluated the diagnostic material, he will explain his findings at the orthodontic consultation appointment, at which time treatment options, fees, and payment plans will be finalized.

What Dr. Rose will discuss with you during your initial consultation:

  • What sort of orthodontic problems are present, if any.
  • Whether or not orthodontic treatment is necessary, and when treatment should begin.
  • Treatment options.
  • Approximate number of months of active orthodontic treatment.
  • Approximate cost of treatment, payment plans, and dental plan information.

Orthodontic Diagnostic Records

If it is determined the patient would benefit from orthodontic treatment, orthodontic diagnostic records must be made. This diagnostic material will be used to help Dr. Rose formulate an orthodontic treatment plan. These records typically include:

  • Plaster molds of the mouth and teeth.
  • Photos of the mouth, teeth, and face.
  • Orthodontic X-rays (Panorex and Cephalogram)

Dr. Rose will need this information to prepare a customized treatment plan, and will use the orthodontic records to track the progress of treatment as the teeth move into their new positions.

The Orthodontic Consultation

The orthodontic consultation occurs after the orthodontic diagnostic records have been evaluated and the treatment plan has been designed. During the consultation, Dr. Rose will discuss orthodontic treatment, the types of orthodontic appliances that are available, cost, and insurance information.

Scheduling Appointments

The orthodontic appliance placement appointment is when Dr. Rose places the orthodontic brackets on the teeth. This process usually takes about an hour, and then the patient is on the way toward a straighter, happier smile.

After Dr. Rose places the orthodontic appliance, follow-up appointments are usually scheduled every 5 to 8 weeks. These appointments take about 30 minutes depending on what treatment is to be performed.

Regarding appointments: Our office will make every effort to be on time, and we ask that our office be extended the same courtesy. If you or your child will be late, or cannot make an appointment, please let us know as soon as possible. Appointments can be rescheduled, so please contact our office at (281) 493-2370 if there is a need to change an appointment day or time.
